Looking to create the perfect bake-off? Who said you need to spend hours in the kitchen? Here are five delicious baking recipes from cinnamon buns to vegan garlic bread.

1. Cinnamon Buns


  • Pre-made pizza dough
  • 200g butter
  • 100g caster sugar
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 150g icing sugar
  • 50mls water

Pre-heat the oven to 175 degrees centigrade. Roll out your pizza dough to a large rectangle. Mix up the caster sugar, cinnamon and butter, then spread the mixture onto the dough. Roll up the rectangle until you have one long sausage shape. Then cut into inch-thick slices. Place the slices on a greased tray close together and bake for 20 minutes until golden. While cooking mix the icing sugar and water then use this to glaze the cinnamons buns after they have cooled slightly.

2. Vegan Garlic Bread


  • 500g strong white bread flour
  • 7g quick yeast
  • 1tbsp sugar
  • 1tsp salt
  • 1tbsp melted dairy free margarine
  • 3tbsp dairy free margarine, plus extra to butter the tin
  • 3 crushed garlic cloves
  • 2tbsp chopped parsley
  • 1tsp flaky salt

This is a super easy vegan garlic bread recipe. First mix the garlic, parsley and 3tbsp dairy free margarine to make the garlic butter and set aside. Next make the bread by mixing the yeast, sugar, salt and flour. Add the melted 1tbsp dairy free margarine and 300ml warm water after mixing together, then stir the whole mixture until it forms a dough. Knead for around five minutes, then place in a roasting tin that has been pre-greased. Stretch out to the edges. Spread the garlic butter on top and allow it to rise for 40-50 minutes. Then bake for 20-25 minutes until golden!

3. Rock Cakes


  • 200g self-raising flour
  • 75g caster sugar
  • 1tsp baking powder
  • 100g salted butter
  • 100g raisins
  • 50g dried cherries
  • 1 medium egg
  • 1tbsp milk
  • 2 tsp almond extract

Preheat the oven to 150 degrees centigrade. Line the baking tray with baking parchment. Mix the sugar, flour and baking powder then add the butter. Tip in the raisins and cherries. In a separate bowl mix the egg, milk and almond extract. Add the two mixtures together and stir thoroughly. You should get a thick dough. Separate into ping pong ball sizes balls and place on the baking tray. Bake for 10 minutes, check then for another 5-10 if required.

4. Banana Bread


  • 100g butter
  • 100g caster sugar
  • 2 medium eggs
  • 100g self-raising flour
  • 1tsp baking powder
  • 2 ripe bananas – mashed

Pre-heat the oven to 160 degrees centigrade, butter a loaf tin and set aside. Mix the butter and sugar then add the eggs and flour. Spoon in the baking powder then the mashed bananas. Stir until combined then place in the tin and bake for 30 minutes or until a cooked right through.

5. Vegetable tart


  • 1 roll of pre-made flaky pastry
  • A large bowl of chopped vegetables – any you have to hand
  • 1tbsp olive oil
  • Salt to taste
  • Tomato paste
  • Basil leaves
  • Chopped walnuts, lightly toasted

Grease a large flat tray and roll over the pastry, spread the tomato paste on top, then the vegetables, olive oil and salt. Scatter the basil leaves and chopped walnuts then place the tart in a pre-heated oven. Cook for 15 minutes on 200 degrees Celsius or until golden brown. Those are our top recipes for family baking.
